CEO: Mikron ready to make 10–12 mln chips/year for e-passports

ZELENOGRAD, Jul 24 (PRIME) – Russia will need 10–12 million chips a year for electronic civil passports and microelectronics maker Mikron can fully meet the demand, General Director Gulnara Khasyanova told reporters on Wednesday.

The price of a chip is yet to be calculated, and regulating documents should be approved first, Khasyanova said.

Mikron has already sent the first samples of such chips to the Interior Ministry, the Digital Development Ministry, and others.

Director for special projects Denis Varaksin said the company supplies micro schemes for all state electronic documents that are issued and circulate in the country.

Deputy Prime Minister Maxim Akimov said earlier in July that the country will start issuing electronic passports from July 2020 and Moscow will become a pilot city.
